Sporting's top goal scorer Ben Walters got into gear and managed to get 2 goals to put Sporting back in front 3 - 2. Unfortuantely Anchor managed to score their third to make it even at half time. The 2nd half Anchor upped their game and pressured Sporting who stood firm and tried to play the offside trap where possible. On 2 occasions Anchor beat the offside and put 2 past the Sporting keeper. Making the score 5-3 to Anchor. Sporting continued to pressure and Ben Walters created created Sporting's 4th, which the keeper parried onto a defenders head, deflecting it into the back of the net. 5-4 to Anchor. Some sloppy defending in the last 10 minutes gifted anchor another 2 goals making the final score 7-4 in Anchor's favour. Man of the match goes to left back Mark Knight. Special mention goes to Paul Millward who realised 10 minutes into the game he was running the line for the wrong team... |
May 5th 2010 - Sporting 0-3 Woolsery |

It was 10 minutes into the 2nd half when Woolsery managed to put themselves in front. 2 more goals followed for Woolsery to make the final score 0-3. In the 2nd half, the main highlight for Sporting was a fantastic 25 yard shot by Adam Walters from the touch line which was heading for the top corner, the woolsery keeper had to make a excellent save to keep it out. Man of the match Ben Walters. |
April 28th 2010 - Equalizers 10-2 Sporting |
| Sporting couldn't find a goalkeeper for Wednesday, so 2 of the full backs did half each in goal. Equalizers fielded a strong side featuring some Barnstaple Town players. Sporting were missing a couple of players due to injury and couldn't cope with Equalizers on the night. A goal from Super Kev Baddick in the first half and Ben Walters in the 2nd half were the main highlights for Sporting, although Ben also hit the post and forced a couple of good saves out of the opposition keeper. |
April 24th 2010 - Merton 1-5 Sporting |
| A much needed return to form for Sporting who started brightly applying pressure from the start. Adam Walters put Sporting in front on 5 minutes with a quality finish from an acute angle. Jon Pine (with his first goal of the season) increased Sporting's lead on 25 minutes from 20 yards, his shot looked to be going wide but sneaked in at the far post. 10 minutes before half time centre back, Dan Ferne out jumped 2 Merton defenders to head home from a Gary Mcfarlane corner for his 7th of the season. Merton came out after half time revitalised and tried to get back in the game and as a result where awarded a dubious penalty which they converted. On 60 minutes Jon Pine showed his pace and beat the offside trap and slotted home past the keeper to give Sporting a 3 goal cushion. Ben Walters efforts where rewarded on 80 minutes with his 8th goal of the season, sealing a good win for Sporting. Special mention to Tom Webb who had an excellent game at right back before going off injured at half time, and also to substitute Johny 'B-cup' Green who put in a good performance when he came on. Man of the match went to Jon Pine for scoring his first 2 goals for the club. Best wishes go to the Merton player who broke his leg following a 50/50 challenge and had to wait an hour for the ambulance to turn up. |

Woolsery eventually managed to get themselves in front, and finished the half 3 - 0 up. Woolsery got another early in the 2nd half, before Lee Byrne ventured forward and smashed home for his 2nd goal in a week from 6 yards. This started a Sporting revival who pressured Woolsery, we created a few chances, one of which hit the post. But Sporting couldn't find another goal. Woolsery were good on the counter attack and managed to get 2 more goals before the end. Sporting battled and played well in all areas of the pitch and it was more even game than the score suggests. Sporting's man of the match went to left back Sam Paddon. |

February 13th 2010 - Torrington 0-1 Sporting |
| A well deserved win for Sporting this week. Dan Ferne, standing in as manager for the day, secured Sporting's first 3 points of the year. Dan's cross found its way to leading goal scorer Adam Walters who got the only goal of the game with a spectacular volley. Torrington had a man sent off early in the first half, which helped the Sporting cause. Most of the second half was spent defending the Sporting goal, but a great attitude and performance by the whole team, as well as a little bit of luck secured the points. |
December 5th 2009 - High Bickington 2-1 Sporting |
| Another unlucky day out for Sporting. A much improved performance from an injury hit squad. It was an even game with chances for both sides. If Adam Walters missed penalty had counted as well as a curious disallowed goal in the first half, Sporting could have come out on top. Man of the match goes to Mark Dorman for his many saves in difficult conditions. |
November 21st 2009 - Buckland Brewer 3-4 Sporting |
| A return to winning form for Sporting with a 4-3 win over Buckland Brewer. The first half saw Sporting competing and winning the ball in all areas. Top goal scorer Adam Walters got the first goal with a terrific strike from the corner of the box. Andy Ladley scored the second, with his first goal for the club following a 10 year drought, slotting it past the keeper from close range. 2 - 0 at half time. Sporting started the 2nd half poorly allowing their opponents to draw level. Lee Byrne got Sportings 3rd to put us back in front, set up by Tom Webb, Lee's shot had too much power for the keeper to hold onto. Buckland Brewer then drew level for the 2nd time after some unlucky rebounds following a corner. Sporting's newest signing Steve Priscott got the winner with his first goal for the club with a cross from the wing which everyone missed and it sneaked in at the back post. Special mention goes to Gary Mcfarlane who gave the Buckland defence a lesson with his pace and movement. A much needed 3 points for Sporting. Man of the match goes to Shaun Harrington on his return after a 5 week break. |

October 31st 2009 - Anchor 9-2 Sporting |
| Another lacklustre display from Sporting saw them slip to their 3rd defeat on the bounce with a 9-2 hammering by mid table rivals Anchor. An enraged Gary McFarlane ripped into all players at half time yet Sporting never looked like taking the game to Anchor with an all-round poor performance throughout the team. Sporting’s goals came courtesy of a Gary McFarlane cross come shot and a sweetly taken header at the back post by Tom Webb for his first goal in over 4 years. Sporting's Man of the Match award said it all about the performance with 10 different nominated players, but Tom Webb took the honours for his 3rd Man of the match award in as many weeks. |

| Saturday's game saw Sporting home to Equalizers. Sporting started off well with the majority of the play in the first half. Adam Walters scored to put Sporting in front. Equalizers raised their game and came back to take the lead 2-1. Some good work from Johnny Green forced a penalty, which Adam Walters converted to make the score 2-2. Unfortunately Sporting couldn't make their chances count and paid the price finishing 4-2 to Equalizers. A good effort and performance though from Sporting, much improved on the previous week. Man of the match for the 2nd week running was Tom Webb. |
October 11th 2009 - Woolsery 7-0 Sporting - Braunton Cup |
Sporting's Braunton cup game ended in defeat after a poor team performance. Arriving with the bare 11 and with some key players missing, Sporting were under the cosh from the kick off. A young and spritely Woolsery side seemed to want it more on the day. The arrival of Lee Byrne(sub) at half time gave us more stability and bite in midfield. Sporting got back into the game, played some good football and created chances and were unfortunate not to score. A lack lustre performance which needs improvement. Final score 7-0. Man of the match was awarded to Tom Webb. Thanks and good luck to Chris Earlham and John Christianson, who are moving away (not together, I may add) to the big smoke. Best wishes from the team. |
October 3rd 2009 - Sporting 2-5 Torrington |
| Some silly mistakes in the first half gifted Torrington 3 goals that could have been avoided. Lee Byrne managed to get a goal back from a corner, but the first half ended 5-1 to Torrington. Sporting seemed a different team in the second half having most of the play including having 3 goals disallowed before Adam Walters managed to score a great individual goal. Final score Sporting 2 - 5 Torrington. Man of the match awarded to Sam Paddon. |
September 26th 2009 - Torrington Admirals 2-3 Sporting |
| Saturday saw Sporting gain their 3rd win of the season away at Torrington Admirals. Unable to take advantage of 4 or 5 chances in the first half, Sporting fell behind early in the second half as the Admirals took the lead. Lee Byrne snatched an equalizer shortly after. The Admirals went ahead a second time due to some sloppy defending at the back. Man of the match, Dan Ferne came on to score 2 quality goals to seal the win for Sporting. |
September 19th 2009 - Sporting 1-3 Park United |

Man of the match was shared between 2 players this week, new signing Chris Holding at centre back had a great debut performance, and striker Gary Mcfarlane, played in goal and made some fantastic saves (even if the ref didn't see them!!). |
September 12th 2009 - Torrington 3-0 Sporting - Devon Intermediate Cup |
| Sporting travelled to Torrington in the Devon Intermediate Cup. Our injury plagued squad of 12 put up a brave performance against a good Torrington side. Gary Mcfarlane had a goal disallowed which would have made the score 1 - 1 at the time. Sporting where competitive in all areas of the pitch for the full 90 minutes. But in the end Torrington came away with a 3-0 victory. The manager was impressed with the 100% effort from all players present, Shaun Harrington got the vote for man of the match. |
September 8th 2009 - Northam Lions 1-2 Sporting |
| Again a solid performance from Sporting. Kevin Baddick got his first for the club in the first half to put us in front,
with a pinpoint cross supplied by Gary McFarlane. Northam then equalised. Again Sporting had many chances and should have been 4 up in the first half.
With 25 minutes to go Lee Byrne scored from a throw-in from Dan Ferne to put us back in front. With 15 minutes to go, new signing Steve Marlow went in for a tackle and pulled his ankle ligaments.
Sporting finished the last fifteen minutes with 10 men (having used all their subs) and were under the cosh, but managed to hold on to secure their 2nd consecutive win. 100% record so far. Man of the Match - Steve Marlow, who is now out injured for 4 to 6 weeks. |
September 5th 2009 - Sporting 5-2 Merton |
| Good performance by all. New signing George Lane got his first goal for the club to put Sporting ahead.
Dan Ferne got one, Adam Walters got 2. Sporting also missed a hatful of chances and should have scored at least 7. Man of the match - Adam Walters. |
